LOS ANGELES – June 21, 2024 – As the Port of Los Angeles, in collaboration with Caltrans, continues the SR 47 Interchange Project, expect lane reductions and ramp closures on SR 47 and I-110 in San Pedro. Alternate freeway access points are suggested at Gaffey Street in San Pedro and John S. Gibson Boulevard in Wilmington.
Upcoming Traffic Impacts:
- Starting Monday, June 24: The northbound I-110 on-ramp from Harbor Boulevard/Front Street will be reduced from two lanes to one for approximately one year.
- Starting Monday, June 24: The northbound I-110 on-ramp from Harbor Boulevard/Front Street will be fully closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Wednesday, June 26, to restripe lanes and place traffic barriers.
- Starting Tuesday, June 25: The southbound SR 47 off-ramp to Harbor Boulevard will be fully closed overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Friday, June 28, for drainage system replacement work.
These overnight closures might extend up to one week to safely complete the construction activities.
Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic signs. For additional inquiries, please leave a message at (310) 732-7778, and your call will be returned within 24 hours. For the latest project updates, visit portofla.org/SR47.
The SR 47 Interchange Project will replace the current southbound SR 47 off-ramp from the Vincent Thomas Bridge with a new off-ramp on the north side. Additional enhancements include realigning the northbound I-110 connector on-ramp, modifying the northbound SR 47 off-ramp to Harbor Boulevard, modifying the northbound SR 47 on-ramp toward Terminal Island, and improving nearby local streets.
This project focuses on improving traffic connections in San Pedro accessing the Vincent Thomas Bridge, not the bridge itself. Separately, Caltrans is planning the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project to replace the bridge deck and seismic sensors to maintain its functionality and structural integrity, enhancing overall safety. While the Vincent Thomas Bridge is situated on Port of Los Angeles property and is crucial to the San Pedro Bay port complex, the Port is not directly involved in this project.
